Tanghulu is a traditional Chinese snack that originates in the Southern Song Dynasty and prevails  during  the  Republic  of  China.  Traditional  Tanghulu  generally  consists  of hawthorns skewered on bamboo sticks. The hawthorn and the sugar coating on the outside is frozen hard due to  low  temperature,  making  it  taste  sour  and  sweet  and  popular  among  the  Chinese  people. Tanghulu is rich in nutritional value, particularly vitamin C aiding in digestion, so it is suitable for all ages. Tanghulu is a popular winter snack in northern China. However, in recent years, it’s also sold in summer. Besides the traditional hawthorn-made Tanghulu, it also has different flavors such as strawberries, bananas, oranges and walnuts according to the different ingredients.
