短语have a ( some time ) break在口语中经常出现，意为“休假(多长时间)”，其中break为名词，意为“休息;间歇”。短语apply for意为“申请(工作、职位等)”;used to意为“曾经”，用于指过去持续或经常发生的事;work for意为“为……工作”。

英语四级归纳：

used可以理解为动词use的过去式或过去分词，也可用作形容词，正因为此，有关used的短语常常让人感到混淆，这里特将其归纳如下:

※ be used to do sth.意为“被用来做某事”，used为use(使用)的过去分t司，表被动。如:

Sound can be used to measure temperature in the ocean.声音可以用于测量海水的温度。

※ used to do sth.意为“过去常做某事，曾经做某事”，其中used为use的过去式。如:

I used to go to the beach every day.我以前每天都去海滩。

※ be used to sth./doing sth.意为“习惯于，适应(做)某事”，其中used用作形容词。如:

I'm used to being alone.我习惯了独自一人。
