unless意为“除非”，表示让步或者条件。如:

She won't be happy unless you accompany her all the time.除非你一直陪着她，不然她会不开心。

英语四级归纳：

unless与if…not都可以译为‘’要是(不)”，但是二者在用法和含义上并非完全等同。如：

※ Unless she had noticed this，the world would have lost one of the greatest discoveries of thecentury.(=If she had not noticed this，the world would have lost one of the greatest discoveriesof the Century.)假如她没有注意到这一点，世界就会失去一项那个世纪最伟大的发现。

※ Unless I were a teacher, I would not concern myself with your morality.我又不是 老师，不会关心你的道德品质。

If I weren't a teacher, I would not concern myself with your morality.假如我不是老师的话，我就不会关心你的道德品质了。(实际上我是老师，因此要关心你的道德品质。)
